You need to take a hunter's safety course I'm pretty sure.

Google is your best friend. This was like the 3rd one down, and I stopped after this. Looks like they have to be over 18 with a safety course, and approved by your parents. And yes I understand that this is mostly for the youth day, but from what I can remember you need someone over 18 anyways with the safety course completed and a license. Because you legally have to be 18 to own a rifle, so I'd assume they would want someone over 18 to walk with a minor in the woods.

It's the first paragraph

15 and under can go with someone over 18 but can not carry a weapon, 15-17 can get a junior hunting license and carry a weapon but must be with someone 18 and over, to hunt alone you must be 18 or over, taken a hunter safety class, and have your license. you also can not have a felony on your record or be on probation.

iv been hunting since i was 12, carrying a gun since 15. i have my lifetime hunting license. hunter safety classes are cheap, like $5

Wow things have changed. I carried a gun in the woods with my dad from 10-15 at 16 started hunting alone. At fifteen I took the required hunters safety class.

Hey Panda, I'm kinda confused. I was just reading this earlier where I'm going to try and start hunting again (though I know nothing beyond how to shoot a firearm, no one in my family hunts or fishes). It said this.

Laws Pertaining to Junior Hunters

1. Hunting Prohibited. Children under 10 years of age are not allowed to hunt.
2. Junior hunting license. Children at least 10 years of age and under 16 years of age must have a junior hunting license to hunt.
3. Hunters to be accompanied. Junior hunters (10 years of age or older and under 16) may hunt with firearms ONLY in the presence of their parent or guardian or an adult who is at least 18 years of age. The person who accompanies a youth hunter is responsible for any violations committed by that hunter. Any person who accompanies a junior hunter, other than the parent or guardian, must either possess a valid Maine hunting license or have successfully completed a hunter education course. That presence must be unaided by visual or audio enhancement devices, including binoculars and citizen band radios. A junior hunter who turns 16 years of age may continue hunting with a firearm, crossbow, or bow and arrow for that year with the junior license (see exception), but must complete the appropriate safety course prior to hunting without adult supervision. A junior hunter who turns 16 and continues hunting with a junior license must purchase waterfowl (Federal and State) and pheasant authorities. For 2009 Junior hunters 10-15 years of age must purchase the bear permit, the muzzleloading permit, expanded archery permits, and Wild Turkey permits. Effective 1/1/2010, junior license will include these permits.
4. Archery hunting. A Junior Hunting License holder may hunt with bow and arrow when accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. Juniors hunting during the expanded archery season must purchase the expanded archery permits. Juniors must make a tag for transporting deer to a registration station. Do not use the tag on the Junior License if a deer is taken during the expanded archery season.
5. Youth deer hunting day. Junior hunters (10 years of age or older and under 16) who hold a valid junior hunting license are allowed to take one deer of either sex (except in WMD’s where no antlerless deer permits are issued; youth hunters are restricted to bucks only), with either a firearm, crossbow, or bow and arrow on the youth deer hunting day. If they shoot a deer on the youth deer hunting day, they are prohibited from taking any additional deer, unless they have been awarded a bonus antlerless-deer permit or participate in the expanded archery season (designated areas only) with appropriate expanded archery permits. The parent, guardian, or qualified adult shall not possess a firearm while accompanying a participating youth hunter. All laws pertaining to hunting during the open firearms season on deer apply on the youth deer day.
6. For information on crossbow hunting, see crossbow hunting license.

So can anyone thats nots zonked out on coffee sum this up for me please? Ty.

Otter are you over 16?
If so, I think you will need a hunters safety class before you can get a hunting license. If your under 16 all you need is for mom or dad to get your junior license and hunt with some one 18+ that has a current hunting license. Same as it was when I was a wee one.

Just turned 16. And I have a hunters safety course, 6 years old but. So I can just get a license and I can go alone, or find a friend to take me? Which would be best / safer, I don't know how to gut a deer...

And ok, I'd bet money they change the laws every year. But hi Panda!

looks like you can hunt alone, but if you dont knonw how to gut a deer bring someone that can drive, because you not only need to gut it you need to tag the deer and drag it out of the woods
